Do into English (first in Direct Speech and then in Indirect Speech) :

मेरे मित्र ने मुझसे कहा कि तुम जीवन में सफल हो।

भिखारी ने मुझसे कहा कि ईश्वर आपको सुखी बनाये।

माँ ने पुत्र से कहा कि तुम सदा स्वस्थ एवं प्रसन्न रहो।

मैंने अपने छोटे भाई से कहा कि तुम परीक्षा में सफल हो।

संत ने कहा कि ईश्वर पापियों को क्षमा करे।

मैंने अपने मित्र से कहा कि ईश्वर तुम्हारी सहायता करे।

लोगो ने कहा की ईश्वर हमारे देश को आतंकवादियों से बचाये।

हमारे प्रधनमंत्री ने कहा कि देश में सर्वत्र शांति हो।

बूढ़े ने कहा कि ईश्वर मेरे देशवासियो की रक्षा करे।

देश के लोगो ने कहा कि हमारे राष्ट्रपति दीर्घायु हो।

हम लोगो ने कहा कि आतंकवाद का अंत हो।

Vocabulary for Hindi to English Translation Exercise 196 of 255:

सफल होना – to succeed, to be successful,

भिखारी – beggar,

पापी – sinner,

क्षमा करना – to pardon, to forgive,

आतंकवादी – terrorist,

बचाना / रक्षा करना – to save,

सर्वत्र – everywhere,

शांति – peace,

आतंकवाद – terrorism,

अंत होना – to come to an end.

Optative Sentences (इच्छाबोधक वाक्य):

Optative Sentences से Wish (इच्छा), Prayer (प्रार्थना), Blessing (आशीर्वाद), Curse (शाप / श्राप), इत्यादि का बोध होता है। इन्हें Direct Speech से Indirect Speech में इस प्रकार बदला जाता है:

 

(i) Reported Speech के अर्थ / भाव के अनुसार Reporting Verb ‘say / said’ को wish / wished / pray / prayed / bless / blessed / curse / cursed में बदल दिया जाता है।

 

(ii) Inverted Commas को हटाकर that का व्यवहार किया जाता है।

 

(iii) Optative Sentence को Assertive Sentence में परिवर्तित कर दिया जाता है, अर्थात् Verb का व्यवहार Subject के बाद किया जाता है।

 

(iv) Sentence के अंत में Full Stop का व्यवहार होता है।

नीचे के वाक्यों को ध्यान से पढ़ें:

  1. पिताजी ने मुझसे कहा कि तुम जीवन में सफल हो।

Father said to me, “May you be successful in life!” (Direct)

Father wished that I might be successful in life. (Indirect)

 

  1. बूढ़े ने उससे कहा की ईश्वर तुम्हे सुखी रखे।

The old man said to him “May God bless you!” (Direct)

The old man wished that God might bless him. (Indirect)

The old man prayed that God might bless him. (Indirect)

 

  1. संत ने मुझसे कहा कि तुम दीर्घायु हो!

The saint said to me “May you live long! (Direct)

The saint blessed me that I might live long. (Indirect)

 

  1. मैंने अपने मित्र से कहा की तुम्हारी यात्रा सुखद हो।

I said to my friend, “May you have a happy journey!” (Direct)

I wished that my friend might have a happy journey. (Indirect)

 

  1. लोगो ने कहा कि हमारे प्रधानमंत्री दीर्घायु हो।

People said, “Long live our prime minister!” (Direct)

People wished that their prime minister might live long. (Indirect)

 

  1. उन लोगो ने कहा कि भ्रष्ट नेतागण जल्दी मरे।

They said “May corrupt leaders die soon!” (Direct)

They cursed that corrupt leaders might die soon. (Indirect)

 

  1. उसने कहा कि ईश्वर हमें भ्रष्ट नेताओ से बचाये।

He said “May God save us from corrupt leaders!” (Direct)

He wished that God might save them from corrupt leaders. (Indirect)

He prayed that God might save them from corrupt leaders. (Indirect)

 

She said “May God save us from corrupt leaders!” (Direct)

She wished that God might save them from corrupt leaders. (Indirect)

She prayed that God might save them from corrupt leaders. (Indirect)
